Dear Diane, I have received a nomination from Helen Mandl supporting Margie Jantti, Quality and Marketing Manager at the University of Wollongong Library for the 91̳ Achievement Award. I fully support the nomination. A brief outline of Margies work is attached. Over the last six years, Margie Jantti has contributed significantly to 91̳s strategic agenda through her work in the area of best practice and continuous improvement. She has developed formidable knowledge and expertise in this area and is an outstanding advocate for the use of business excellence frameworks within the library sector. Margie is an invited speaker at seminars on the principles of quality management and their application in the business, higher education and library sectors. Achievements include her key role in the University of Wollongong Library becoming the first library to win an Australian Business Excellence Award and to receive accreditation against the international Investors in People standard. Margie has exemplified the 91̳ value of collaboration and partnerships through her vigorous pursuit of alliances with local and national communities to identify opportunities to compare performance and practices with external organisations, both within and outside the library industry. Through presentations, staff development, meetings and seminars she has worked to promote continuous improvement and quality assurance in university libraries. She also willingly shares her knowledge on an informal basis answering numerous email and phone requests for information, documents and advice. Margie is currently contributing to quality assurance processes in higher education by advising our University and a number of other universities on their preparation for AUQA audits. Margies advocacy and involvement has promoted the efficiency and effectiveness of academic libraries to leaders in business and higher education. She has created new perceptions of the role and the abilities of library staff in the minds of many who were previously unaware of the relevance of business improvement and best practice to the library environment. This is supported by the numerous testimonials received and the steady flow of invitations to present papers or workshops, to conduct audits or to host visits. Margie Jantti would be a worthy recipient of the 91̳ Achievement Award.
